Topic code and title:: ES1 Searching for transients in VLASS data
Project description: The Very Large Array Sky Survey (VLASS) maps 80% of the radio sky. It revisits the same region thrice with a cadence of 1 year leading to discovery of several transient radio sources. As of today, source catalogues of the first and second epochs are available for download. In this project we will look for transients using these two epochs and further study them based on multi-wavelngth or other radio frequency association. Prerquisits: (i) Basic knowledge of python and aptitude for coding. (ii) Basic knowledge of Astronomy & Astrophysics. Preference to candidates who have credited an introductory astronomy course during their coursework.

Topic code and title:: ES2 Nowcasting Thunderstorms over Indian Region
Project description: Recent years have witnessed an increase in the frequency and intensity of heavy precipitation events over the Indian region. This study aims to investigate the potential interconnections among various parameters of thunderstorms such as brightness temperature (BT), upper tropospheric humidity (UTH), precipitation rate (PR), and Lightning. The analysis incorporates data from satellite and ground-based observations. The ability to predict thunderstorms through satellite-based monitoring holds the potential to issue early warnings, thereby mitigating the impact on lives and minimizing property damages.

Topic code and title:: ES5 Significance of Terrestrial Analogues for Planetary Exploration
Project description: Terrestrial analogues for planetary exploration are environments and associated rocks/minerals on Earth that have physical, chemical, and/or geological similarities with extraterrestrial environments. Comprehensive characterization of terrestrial analogues is required to prepare for forthcoming missions. The purpose of this research is to increase our understanding of how terrestrial analogues might be efficiently used for valuable measurement data for future planetary missions.
