Topic code and title:: AV38 Learning Generalizable Robotic Manipulation from Vision-Language Models and Videos
Project description: The key objective of this work is to enable robots to perform a wide range of manipulation tasks by leveraging vision-language models, which help them understand both visual scenes and natural language instructions. Another important goal is to improve generalization, allowing robots to handle new tasks and unfamiliar environments without needing task-specific training each time. Additionally, the approach focuses on learning from large-scale video data, such as human demonstrations, so that robots can acquire diverse skills efficiently without relying solely on expensive real-world robot data.

Topic code and title:: AV39 Probabilistic Weather Nowcasting using Spatiotemporal Generative Models
Project description: The main idea of probabilistic weather nowcasting using spatiotemporal generative models is to predict future weather (like rainfall) along with uncertainty, rather than giving a single deterministic forecast. These models learn patterns from past radar or satellite data and generate multiple possible future scenarios, capturing how weather can evolve over time. A key concept, similar to GraphCast, is to represent the atmosphere as a graph where different geographic locations are nodes connected based on spatial relationships. Using Graph Neural Networks (GNNs), the model can efficiently capture interactions between regions (like how clouds move and evolve), leading to more accurate and physically consistent forecasts. Overall, the goal is to combine spatial, temporal, and probabilistic modeling to produce reliable short-term weather predictions.

The idea is to estimate the 3D position, orientation, and motion of debris objects from 2D images by learning geometric and motion patterns. Another key goal is to make the system robust to challenges like varying lighting, fast motion, and lack of depth information.

Topic code and title:: AV41 Image Shadow Removal
Project description: The main objective of image shadow removal is to automatically detect and eliminate shadows from images while preserving the original texture, color, and details of the scene. The idea is to separate shadow regions from non-shadow regions using learning-based methods, often leveraging deep neural networks that understand lighting and object structure. Another key goal is to ensure consistency, so that the corrected image looks natural without visible artifacts or color distortion. Overall, this helps improve the quality of images for applications like computer vision, object detection, and image editing.

Project description: Type-I X-ray bursts serve as powerful probes of neutron star physics and thermonuclear burning processes on their surfaces. This project leverages AstroSat LAXPC observations to perform energy-resolved timing and spectral analyses of bursts from sources including GS 1826?238 and 4U 1728?34. Through multi-band light curve decomposition, inter-band time lag measurements, and phase-resolved spectroscopy, we seek to uncover energy-dependent burst characteristics and constrain the underlying radiative mechanisms ? ultimately building a coherent, cross-source picture of Type-I burst behavior.

Topic code and title:: MA04 AT-PINN time advanced marching physics informed neural network for structural vibration analysis
Project description: The accuracies of the standard PINN (STD-PINN) and conventional time-marching PINN (CT-PINN) methods in solving vibration equations, especially free-vibration equations, are shown to decrease to varying degrees with the simulation time. To resolve this problem, an advanced time-marching PINN (AT-PINN) approach is proposed. This method is used to solve structural vibration problems over successive time segments by adopting four key techniques: normalization of the spatiotemporal domain in each time segment, a reactivating optimization algorithm, transfer learning and the sine activation function.

Topic code and title:: MA05 Integrating mathematical principles to solve inhomogeneous wave equations via physics-informed neural networks.
Project description: In recent years, Physics-Informed Neural Networks (PINNs) have shown promise in solving partial differential equations (PDEs) by incorporating physical laws into the learning process, thus reducing dependency on labeled data. However, existing PINN rameworks face limitations in handling inhomogeneous wave equations, which introduce external forcing terms and complex boundary conditions. This study proposes an Inhomogeneous-Solved PINN (IS-PINN) model, integrating traditional mathematical principles, namely the separation of variables, the principle of superposition, and Duhamel?s Principle, into the neural network architecture. The IS-PINN model effectively addresses the challenges of both homogeneous and inhomogeneous wave equations under Dirichlet and Neumann boundary conditions. Through extensive experiments, we demonstrate that IS-PINN achieves superior accuracy compared to traditional PINNs, especially in handling the complexities of inhomogeneous cases. This work not only advances the PINN methodology but also opens new avenues or applying neural networks in solving complex PDEs with high physical fidelity.

Topic code and title:: MA06 PPINN: Parareal physics informed neural network for time-dependent PDEs
Project description: Physics-informed neural networks (PINNs) encode physical conservation laws and prior physical knowledge into the neural networks, ensuring the correct physics is represented accurately while alleviating the need for supervised learning to a great degree. While effective for relatively short-term time integration, when long time integration of the time-dependent PDEs is sought, the time-space domain may become arbitrarily large and hence training of the neural network may become prohibitively expensive. To this end, we develop a parareal physics-informed neural network (PPINN), hence decomposing a long-time problem into many independent short-time problems supervised by an inexpensive/fast coarse-grained (CG) solver.
